You need to remove the cover directly across from the centrifical clutch. It has a bunch of fins that you will see. You will need a strong gripped person to grip the fins. Please remember to tell that person not to break them! Then you take a wide flat blade screwdriver and a hammer on top of the clutch it says off and on rest the screwdriver on the edge of the off side one sharp tap should do it. When it moves very little you then can unscrew in the off direction the entire clutch will come off. Pay close attention at the springs and counter weights because you will have to remove them.

A picture might help. Good luck Gonzo, Mark. The part with TEETH on it. Clutch DRUM and Clutch assembly have no teeth. For those that care, the clutch drum is held on to the end of the engine's crankshaft with a TORX 20 screw. You loosen the screw to REMOVE the drum.

Get a spark tester from the local auto parts store and check to see if voltage is being sent to the plug, also check the contacts on the kill switch. Remove the two nuts holding the air filter holder and remove the filter holder. The kill switch contacts are open to the elements and may collect oil and debris.

Since the switch is normally open for operation, dirt and oil can cause a short in these contacts and cause the voltage to go to ground even if the switch is in the run position. Clean it all up in there and check for leaks in fuel lines. Hi John and Rene, The fuel system on your chainsaw has a filtered inlet that goes to the input tube of the carburetor. The other hose on the carb is the priming hose. It runs from the carb outlet to the input, or suction side, of the primer bulb. The last line runs from the output side of the primer bulb back to the fuel tank.

It is the return line. When you prime your saw the primer pulls filtered fuel into the carb, to the primer bulb and then returns excess back to the tank.

To find the suction side of the primer bulb, attach a piece of fuel line to one side of the primer. Now put the line in a small container of fuel. If you see bubbles when you press the bulb, the hose is hooked to the outlet side of the primer. If it sucks fuel into the bulb then you have found the suction side. Identifying the input and output side of a carb that has a remote priming assembly can be very difficult and there is no rule that applies in every case.

Usually you just need to use trial and error on those connections. If you have hooked everything up so you are pulling fuel through the carb, not pushing it into the carb, and your saw won't fire, you should just need to swap the lines on the carb and then it should run fine. The important thing is that you have the priming lines setup to pull fuel through the carb. I hope this helps! -UtahAV -Mark.

To replace the small fuel line running from the filter, in the tank, to the carb. First remove the old line and filter. Take the old line and use a pair of scissors to cut the first 2' of the new line in half, at the top of the cut taper back into the line. Disability guide answers. Now cut a short point at the end of the cut line. You will be able to feed this point and the rest of the cut line through the hole of the tank from the top. When enough of the line is hanging down in the tank, reach in with pliers, hemostats work best, and pull from the tank side. The line will stretch and become smaller in width, allowing it to be pulled into the gas tank.

Leave plenty of length on the line to remove the cut part of the line and still install the filter. Cut the remaining line to fit for the carb. The main thing to remember is to purchase twice as much line as you need so you can have plenty to work with. Hey, it's cheap, about a dollar a foot. On the Poulan Model 1950 Wood Shark chain saw, can someone instruct me how the fuel line connections are made up between the gas tank, the 2 carburetor connections (inlet and outlet connections), and the return fuel lines? I don't understand why it will run just fine for a few minutes and then quit; and then will not start no matter how many times I try to restart it. On the same chain saw, what is the proper gap between the rotor and the stator to create the spark for the spark plug?

Many thanks for any help you can give me. Best of Regards, Don Weaver (409)771.8328 cell phone.
