If your not mechanicly inclined, I would not recommend it, but you can buy a reman pump from the dealer for around $4000. I also insist you buy a service manual for $500 or so because there is a bleed procedure on a new pump as well as you must have your charge pressure at 410-450psi after 10 seconds etc. Posted by on 9/8/2009 5:42:55 PM i'm sorry, I don't think i'll be much help. My manual doesn't have any info on different years of tractors.

My a/c runs off a belt from the motor, just like a car. Is your a/c compressor run off something different? I don't think pump failures are too common with cat. But I bought mine with a failure just around the corner. After rebuilding the pump I was very worried about the oil to use.

I searched the internet for a week and thought that the CAT. 'HYDO' was the only safe option.

So I went to. Posted by on 9/6/2009 8:17:28 PM I have a little experience with the 247, and lots of experience with pump failure! If I was you, I would stop running it right now. First thing you should do is check the coolng fan speed. I have a feeling the fan is turning too slow. So to do that, you and a buddy should start the thing and check how fast the fan is spinning. Should be around the speed of an electric fan of a car or just slower.

If its turning too slow, you'll need to buy a pressure guage, hose, and a quick connect setup that. Posted by on 4/10/2009 6:05:52 PM It would be nice if manufacturers tested thier vehicles in extreme climates for a year then came up with thier MPG rating. Ya, my hemi dodge ram gets 20 MPG with a tail wind on a mild/hot summers day, with a half tank of fuel, no passengers, no cargo, in the prarries. But where I live its -30C for 4 months and I only get 7 MPG to move that ice cube. Didn't the 426 hemi get 5 MPG in the winter?

Good work dodge, 40 years later and 2 more miles! Posted by on 4/14/2009 6:36:01 PM O.K., I think you should start at the work tool interlock solenoid. I'm looking at my service manual but its for a 247-257 cat. I think it would be the same though. I'm not going to be able to type all this out so click on my name to get my email. Then I'll send you some pictures that might help you.

Posted by on 4/8/2009 6:28:27 PM This is good stuff, A real debate. I can prove its possible, but you can't argue with experience. Bobcat ron's brother probably has more transport miles logged than me (Its safe to say he does.) without any problem. So there you go, just like a real debate lots of talk, and no definate answer. The next cylinder head I take off, I'm going to measure the overlap cause now I'm just curious and I want to check how much air is needed to turn a turbo at a decent speed. I'll post my results, but I. Posted by on 4/6/2009 7:46:18 PM Is there enough air to spool up a turbo?

I have no idea. But its 10 seconds of work to never find out.

Bobcat ron asked about dust/debris in the fins. There wouldn't be any, cause the air passing the tail pipe creates a vacuum in the exhaust system 8.

Posted by on 4/4/2009 7:23:46 AM Is it possible that when the jerk offs cut your track they poured some crap oil down your tailpipe 9. Posted by on 4/4/2009 9:02:07 AM I forgot to mention earlier. This tip won't help you now but in the future, never transport your turbo skidsteer without a tailpipe plug. All engines have an overlap - both valves are open in one cylinder.

If your engine comes to rest in this unique spot, the wind passing the tailpipe during transport will create a vacuum in the exhaust which will suck air through the intake. This air movement will turn the impeller blades. Without a running engine to supply oil to the bearings you will in fact. Posted by on 4/4/2009 7:12:48 AM I'm not a CAT. Mechanic, but I do turn wrenches in the automotive field. After working on car electronics for over 10 years now, I wouldn't doubt thier findings.

I'm loooking at the cat. Service manual for a 257 and the brake control switch does run through the E.C.M. If it was me, I would check the wires from the switch to the ECM for an area of wiring that may have rubbed through, and now the wires are touching the frame of the tractor. This is called a short to ground. If that's not the. Posted by on 10/5/2008 9:02:38 PM Well, I got that pump rebuilt!

The local Cat dealer was more than happy to help remove $2000 fron the ol' bank account in exchange for 2 rotating kits. Funny thing about Caterpillar, you can't get aftermarket parts!

God bless 'em!! I ran the skid for about 10 hours, then dumped the oil and changed the filters. I hope I never have to do that again, the job was suprizingly simple. It took 2 guys 30 beers to finish the pump.

We streched it over a couple of weekends. Can't wait for the next. Posted by on 11:40:50 AM I really like my cat.

The pilot controls are a dream compaired to the hydrulic controls. The thing you might find strange at first, is the half second delay to engage the drive motors. Stopping is in real time, and so are bucket controls. The other thing is the cost of repair, (which I am very famillar with) Bobcat seems to use more general parts which is readily available and cheaper. Cat parts are harder to find and far more expensive. This is just my opinon.

If i had known about this. Posted by on 7/2/2008 8:02:51 PM Well, it's in fact the pump! I should just put a stick of dynamite in it already. I pulled the hydro filters off, its Yukon gold in there. All brass, I just got the pump out now so I'm going to tear it down this weekend. If anybody has a service manual for a cat 247 and wants to sell me a copied Pump section of the manual, That would be nice. I'm just kidding, I would never break those wonderful copyright laws.

But if you give me the section of manual, I'll buy your pocket lint for an agreed. Posted by on 6/25/2008 9:04:24 PM So I got the undercarriage fixed. Works pretty awsome. I gave it to some friends to test it out, They were building a motorcross track, and the tractor started to 'weaken' then vibrate, now nothing.

No drive or hydraulics. Motor runs good. The guys using it are pro. So thats not an issue. I thought of the coupler.
